Campus Network Information
In 2022, Valor began replacing the wireless network on campus with the latest technology. As such some of the wireless information has changed. While you may see multiple networks available to connect to, there are 2 main networks that you should use for your devices: "-Valor-" and "-Valor- 6E". Each one has different benefits and drawbacks which are detailed below.
- -Valor-
- Uses WPA2 Enterprise to provide support for older legacy devices
- May have slightly slower speeds depending on capacity.
- Due to legacy support, may not roam as well throughout the building
- -Valor- 6E
- Uses the latest WiFi 6E technology and WPA3 Enterprise support.
- Provides the fastest speeds available on wireless.
- Has advanced roaming capabilities to provide better wireless coverage while walking through buildings.
- Is not supported with older, non-updated devices so it may be harder to connect to.
Logging in to either of these two networks utilizes your Valor EID (username and password).
Additionally, there are several other networks that may be visible, however, the prior 2 should be used for most student cases
- -Valor- Open
- This network is specifically for guests on campus and should not be joined by students or employees. Campus resources and logins are not accessible from this network.
- This network is rate-limited to 30 Mbps per client.
- -Valor- IoT
- A specialized network for IoT (Internet of Things) devices that are unable to log in on the main two networks. Please contact IT for assistance if you think you may need this network.
Campus Wireless Locations
Wireless internet at Valor is available in all campus buildings, as well as the Valor Business Office. The same name is used in all buildings, so connecting once will allow you to connect in all locations.
Additionally, we are working on expanding our outdoor wireless coverage. Outdoor wireless is available in the alcove under the library as well as the green-shaded locations in the image below.
How to connect with a PC
Connecting with a PC is the same for both the -Valor- and -Valor- 6E networks. The screenshots in this walkthrough however will use the 6E network.
Open your WiFi network list in the bottom right
In the list, click on the desired network followed by connect.
You may get a "Continue connecting?" message, click connect.
The device will check network requirements for a moment.
A username and password box will appear, enter your valor EID and password
Click OK. You'll see "Verifying and Connecting" Click connect again if you get a "Continue Connecting" warning again.
That's it! If your password is correct, you will see a "Connected, secured" message. There may briefly be a "No internet" message for a moment. This is normal and should change to connected after a minute.
If you get an error trying to connect, this is typically due to an incorrect password. Make sure you have the correct password and try again.
How to connect with a Mac
These steps detail how to connect to the Valor network using a Mac. While the screenshots will demonstrate connecting to the 6E network, the same steps can be used for the "-Valor-" network.
For mac devices, click on the wifi icon in the top toolbar.
Click to join one of the Valor networks. When prompted, enter your username and password in the box.
After clicking connect, you will see a certificate message, click continue.
How to connect with a Chromebook/Android
These steps detail how to connect to the Valor network using a Chromebook or android. While the screenshots will demonstrate connecting to the -Valor- network on a Chromebook, the same steps can be used for the "-Valor- 6E" network and while using an Android device.
Chromebooks and Androids are a little picky about the settings when connecting to wireless so make sure you have these settings exact as detailed below.
In your Chromebook, click the wireless icon in the bottom right of the screen. Sometimes this may be paired with the clock. Click in the wifi icon in the expanded list and select either the -Valor- or -Valor- 6E network. (Alternatively, visit the wifi section of your android).
Select the following options and ensure it matches the screenshot:
- EAP Method: PEAP
- EAP Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Server CA Certificate: Do not check
Scroll down on the connection window.
In the identity field, enter your Valor EID username, and your password in the field after. Leave "anonymous identity" blank.
Click Connect.
How to connect with an iPhone
These steps detail how to connect to the Valor network using an iPhone. While the screenshots will demonstrate connecting to the 6E network, the same steps can be used for the "-Valor-" network.
Open the settings app on your phone and tap on the Wi-Fi section
You will see a list of networks, tap on the 6E network.
A username and password prompt will appear. Enter your full Valor EID username and password and tap Join.
A certificate prompt will appear, tap Trust.
That's it! If successful, you will see a blue check mark next to the wireless you just joined. If you get a username and password prompt again, or an "Unable to join" message, this typically means that you entered the wrong username or password. Please check the username spelling and that you have the correct password added.
